Its main job is to provide and sell electricity to about 3.2 million customers. The area it covers includes districts from Attock to Jhelum and from the Indus to the Neelum River in Kashmir. In total, it affects the lives of over 25 million people in these six districts.

History of IESCO

IESCO, which stands for Islamabad Electric Supply Company, has an interesting history. It started as the Area Electricity Board (AEB) Islamabad in 1981, which was one of eight AEBs created by changes to the WAPDA Act. Later, in 1998, IESCO became its own separate company under the Companies Ordinance 1984, as part of the Power Sector Restructuring Program.

The main goal of IESCO was to take over the properties, rights, and responsibilities of the Islamabad Area Electricity Board and expand its business. It officially became a registered company in April 1998 and started its operations in June of the same year.

Today, IESCO is in charge of distributing, supplying, and selling electricity in the area stretching from Attock to Jhelum and from the Indus River to the Neelum River in Kashmir. iii. 001 to 100 Units: The rate per unit remains Rs 7.74.

iv. 101 to 200 Units: Each unit costs Rs 10.06.

IESCO’s tariff for residential customers is divided into slabs based on electricity consumption. The purpose of this is to charge higher rates for higher consumption to encourage energy conservation. Rates increase progressively as the number of units consumed increases.

However, commercial and industrial users are typically charged at higher rates compared to residential users. This is due to the higher demand and usage patterns that differ significantly from residential consumption. Besides, the industrial units, depending on their size and power usage, might also negotiate special tariffs under certain conditions.
